VIDEO PUPPETRY WORKSHOP
Monitor Night with Puppet Kitchen (all ages)

Friday, April 26, 6:00 p.m.
Museum of the Moving Image - Digital Learning Suite

Join the Puppet Kitchen at the Museum of the Moving Image!

Have you ever wondered how the puppets you see on TV come to life? One of the secrets is in giving performers a look at what the camera sees through a live-feed video monitor.
At Monitor Night, we set up a few cameras and monitors so you can come learn about this technique alongside experienced puppeteers who come to hone their skills. Bring a puppet or use one of ours. All are welcome to play. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

This edition of Monitor Night will be hosted by Guest Puppeteer Austin Michael Costello. Costello is a Puppet Artist from Long Island, New York. Growing up as a certified (*or is it certifiable?) Muppet geek, he pursued his love of dolly-wiggling. Costello received his BFA in Puppet Arts from The University of Connecticut's Puppet Arts Program in 2015 and he has since gone on to work with The Boston Pops Orchestra, as a suit performer and handler for Character Management Incorporated, and as an assistant puppeteer on Sesame Street. Costello has also been a shop worker and archivist for The Jim Henson Company and he has built large stage puppets for Beauty and The Beast, Pippin, Little Shop of Horrors, and other local productions. His geekiness bloomed in 2017 when part of his Muppet collection was put on display at Museum of The Moving Image in New York as a part of The Jim Henson Exhibition. He currently works in the Long Island Children’s Museum Theater as their Resident Puppet Artist, assistant to the Theater Manager, and as a technician.

Be sure to check out The Jim Henson Exhibition at the museum to see where this technique began!
