New Black Shorts: Eight Short Films From the African Diaspora

Presented in collaboration with The New Black Fest in association with the Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House

Covering a wide range of experiences, from a young man’s journey home on the New York City subway, to homophobia in the black church, to the controversial practice of skin-bleaching, this evening of eight provocative short films curated by The New Black Fest highlights complex issues of faith, family, race, sexuality, and self-image that are part of the African diasporic experience. Featuring Stone Cars (Reinaldo Marcus Green, 2013), Train (Darius Clark Monroe, 2010), The Boldest, the Bravest (Moon Molson, 2014), First Baptist (Nedra McClyde, 2013), Yellow Fever (Ng’endo Mukii, 2012), Roubado (Erica A. Watson, 2013), Premature (Rashaad Ernesto Green, 2008), and Self-Preservation (LaKisha May, 2015). Program duration: 120 minutes.

This event is sold out. Tickets may become available on a first-come, first-served basis through a standby line. Visit the Museum’s admission desk after 6:00 p.m. to secure a position in the standby line. Tickets: $12 ($9 for senior citizens and students / free for members at the Film Lover level and above).
