All That Heaven Allows

Ongoing

Dir. Douglas Sirk. 1955, 89 mins. 35mm. With Jane Wyman, Rock Hudson, Agnes Moorehead. An indictment of 1950s small town America, and a heartbreaking May–December romance— played with melting intensity by Hudson and Wyman—All That Heaven Allows is perhaps the greatest of Sirk’s glorious melodramas. Brilliantly shot with expressionistic hues and elaborate compositions, and with one of the most affecting holiday scenes committed to film, Dave Kehr called All the Heaven Allows “a masterpiece by one of the most inventive and recondite directors ever to work in Hollywood.”

Tickets for Friday evening screenings: $12 ($9 for senior citizens and students / free for Museum members) and includes admission to the Museum’s galleries, which are open until 8:00 p.m.
