Artist Talk with Daniel Rozin

The artist Daniel Rozin will talk about his works Trash Mirror and Darwinian Straw Mirror, which are on view at Moving Image through August 15. The kinetic installation Trash Mirror (Edition 3) includes 500 pieces of irregularly-shaped discarded objects salvaged from the artist’s pockets and New York City sidewalks. Computer controlled motors connected to each piece of refuse tilt the objects toward and away from a light source to physically build a picture plane based on a live video image of the viewer. Trash Mirror breaks traditional boundaries of sculpture and video, and examines notions of chaos, order, and perception. Also on view is Darwinian Straw Mirror, 2010, which draws an evolving portrait of the viewer with thousands of randomly generated lines.
Daniel Rozin is an artist, educator and developer, working in the area of interactive digital art. As an interactive artist Rozin creates installations and sculptures that have the unique ability to change and respond to the presence and point of view of the viewer. In many cases the viewer becomes the contents of the piece and in others the viewer is invited to take an active role in the creation of the piece. Even though computers are often used in Rozin’s work, they are seldom visible.
Museum admission is free on Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
