Boxcar Bertha

Ongoing

Location: Bartos Screening Room

Dir. Martin Scorsese. 1972. 99 mins. 35mm. With Barbara Hershey, David Carradine, Barry Primus. Using producer Roger Corman as an entrée into Hollywood and a DGA card, Scorsese made this B-movie about a real-life couple on the run from union busters who get involved in underground crime. Barbara Hershey gave Scorsese a copy of The Last Temptation of Christ during the shoot, inspiring Bertha’s conclusion, and Scorsese’s two-decade odyssey to film the novel.
