Gabrielle

Ongoing

Canada. Dir. Louise Archambault. 2013, 104 mins. In French with English subtitles. Digital projection. With Gabrielle Marion-Rivard, Alexandre Landry, Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin, Vincent-Guillaume Otis. Gabrielle’s rare neurological disorder has not kept her from her passions to pursue music, love, and living her life to the fullest. The exuberant star of a choir (played by the radiant Gabrielle Marion-Rivard, who has Williams syndrome in real life), Gabrielle meets and falls in love with fellow choir member Martin. When the staff at her group home tries to prohibit them from becoming physically intimate, she boldly sets out to find independence and sexual freedom. A hit at the Toronto and Locarno film festivals, Gabrielle was Canada’s official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
