Hands Up: Six Playwrights, Six Testaments

Ongoing

Presented in collaboration with The New Black Fest in association with the Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House

Sparked by the nation-wide conversation and activism surrounding police and societal targeting of African Americans, The New Black Fest commissioned six playwrights to write monologues and performance essays reflecting on their experience of being black men in America.

The evening features the work of playwrights Dennis Allen II, Idris Goodwin, Eric Holmes, Nathan James, Glenn Gordon, and Nathan Yungerburg performed by the cast of the National Black Theatre production, and directed by Jonathan McCrory. The performance will be followed by a conversation led by Keith Josef Adkins, Artistic Director of The New Black Fest.

Seats are no longer available for this program. Some seats may become available on a first-come, first-served basis through a standby line. Visit the Museum’s admission desk after 6:00pm to secure a position in the standby line.
