Inside the Movie Business: The Upside of Disruption

Ongoing

Location: Redstone Theater

Introduced by Museum Co-Chair Michael Barker and Vice Chair Warrington Hudlin

A discussion with Shari E. Redstone, Dan Ochiva, Harold L. Vogel, and Jamie Wilkinson, moderated by Jason E. Squire

The Movie Business Book, edited by Jason E. Squire, provides a comprehensive overview of the ever-changing moving image industry. To celebrate the release of the 4thedition (MBB4), the Museum presents an exciting roundtable discussion that will offer an exclusive view of the current state of the art—and the business from some of the industry’s most highly regarded insiders.

Looking at the art and the business of producing, marketing, and distributing movies worldwide, from micro-budget indies to blockbuster studio tentpoles, The Movie Business Book has become a definitive sourcebook. MBB4 offers an up-to-the-minute overview of an industry that is in tremendous flux. Along with the disruption of traditional models, there is great opportunity for creators and for viewers.

Squire will moderate an all-star panel, with an eclectic array of some of the most experienced and accomplished industry professionals. The discussion will be followed by a book signing in the Museum Store.

Shari E. Redstone is the president of National Amusements, the parent company of Viacom Inc. and CBS Corp., and vice-chair of both boards.

Dan Ochiva is the founder and president of NYC Production and Post News. For twenty years, he was the technology editor of Millimeter Magazine.

Harold L. Vogel, the CEO of Vogel Capital Management, is the author of the essential book Entertainment Industry Economics, long regarded as the definitive book on its topic.

Jamie Wilkinson is the co-founder and general manager of Vimeo-VHX, a pioneering platform in online self-distribution, allowing content creators to be their own distributor.
