This arthouse-meets-grindhouse instant cult classic confirmed Wheatley’s status as one of the most gifted and iconoclastic British directors working today. Once again demonstrating his knack for delivering genre-bending kicks, Kill List begins as a slow-burn thriller in which Jay (Maskell), an ex-soldier-turned-hitman, is hired by an enigmatic client to commit a series of contract killings. But as he goes about his work, something snaps in Jay, sending this blood-spattered brain-bender spinning off into increasingly dark and demented realms. It all culminates in one of the most potent shock endings ever perpetrated onscreen.
