Ongoing

Preceded by Life Without Zoë

Dir. Sofia Coppola. 2003, 101 mins. 35mm. With Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Giovanni Ribisi. In neon-lit modern Tokyo, an aging actor and a young woman meet in a hotel bar and strike up an unlikely and nuanced friendship. In a gentle, observational style, the film wistfully shows a genuine emotional connection developing against a backdrop of modern-day urban alienation. Made in an almost improvised, naturalistic style, the film was one of the most critically acclaimed movies of the year, with Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.

Life Without Zoë

Dir. Francis Ford Coppola. 1989, 34 mins. Part of the anthology film New York Stories, with Talia Shire, Giancarlo Giannini. Working with her father, Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola co-wrote this film about a young girl who lives in a luxury hotel while trying to reconcile her divorced parents.
