Marie’s Story (Marie Heurtin)

Ongoing

Dir. Jean-Pierre Améris. 2014, 95 mins. Digital projection. In French with English subtitles. With Isabelle Carré, Arianna Rivoire, Brigitte Catillon, Noémie Churlet. Based on true events, Marie’s Story recounts the courageous tale of a deaf and blind fourteen-year-old girl sent to the Larnay Institute in central France, where an order of Catholic nuns manage a school for deaf girls. Sister Marguerite, a young nun, takes Marie under her wing and opens her mind to the world around her. “An assured, emotionally satisfying French offering. Carré… plays her determined character with moving obstinacy and grace” (Peter Debruge, Variety).
