Martin Scorsese presents: The Age of Innocence

Thursday, Jun 21, 2012

Location: Redstone Theater

Screening introduced by Martin Scorsese

Dir. Martin Scorsese. 1993, 139 mins. 35mm. With Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder. For the Museum’s series See It Big!, celebrating the presentation of great movies on the big screen, legendary director Martin Scorsese has selected one of his favorites of his own films. Scorsese will introduce a rare theatrical screening of The Age of Innocence, his sumptuous cinematic rendering of Edith Wharton’s novel about the social mores of turn-of-the-century New York and one of the legendary director’s greatest accomplishments. Both a visual feast (featuring gorgeous cinematography and Oscar-winning costumes) and a profoundly moving character-driven drama of unrequited love—between Day-Lewis’s upright Newland Archer and Pfeiffer’s scandal-tinged Countess Olenska—The Age of Innocence is an overwhelming emotional experience, as rattling any of the director’s visions of the city’s mean streets.

This event is sold out.
