In this freewheeling movie about “the last romantic couple,” a bored Parisian man leaves his job and his wife to run off with the babysitter, played by Anna Karina. With its idea-packed script, its comic-book pastoral visual style by cinematographer Raoul Coutard, and its unforgettable cameo by American director Sam Fuller, Pierrot le Fou is the pinnacle of the French New Wave, and of the collaboration between director Jean-Luc Godard and actress Anna Karina. Karina will be present for a conversation with film critic Molly Haskell, who lived in Paris in the early 1960s and worked for the French Film Office. This program is part of “Anna in New York,” a series of screenings and discussions with Anna Karina in conjunction with the release of a newly restored version of Band of Outsiders, which opens at Film Forum on Friday, May 6.
