SCREENING

Queen Christina

Ongoing

Dir. Rouben Mamoulian. 1933, 99 minutes. 35mm. With Greta Garbo, John Gilbert. Garbo delivers one of her most iconic performances as the cross-dressing Swedish queen who forsakes her royal obligations for an affair with a dashing Spanish ambassador. Mamoulian transforms the costume drama trappings into a supremely sensual study of erotic longing, all leading up to one of cinema’s immortal final scenes.
