Based on the eponymous novel by Hubert Selby, Jr., Aronofsky’s astonishing and hallucinatory second film follows a young couple in their downward spiral into heroin abuse in the midst of a search for the key to their dreams. Requiem featured stunning performances by Jared Leto and Jennifer Connelly, and won Ellen Burstyn a Supporting Actress nomination for her lacerating portrayal of a diet pill-addicted mother.
