Sarabah

Ongoing

With filmmakers and series curator Martha Diaz in person

A film by Dirs. Maria Luisa Gambale, Gloria Bremer and Steven Lawrence. 2011, 60 mins. Digital projection. This rousing documentary follows Senegalese rapper and activist Sister Fa as she leads an impassioned crusade against her home country’s practice of female genital cutting. Using music to spread her message, Sister Fa journeys from her adopted city of Berlin to the Senegalese countryside, an odyssey that culminates in an emotional return to her home village. Brimming with propulsive hip-hop tunes and an inspiring message of change, Sarabah sheds much-needed light on a taboo topic, while offering a powerful example of how music can be a force for social justice.

Tickets: $12 ($9 for senior citizens and students / free for members at the Film Lover level and above). Order tickets online. (Members may contact [email protected] with any questions regarding online reservations.)
