Some Like It Hot

Ongoing

Dir. Billy Wilder. 1959, 120 mins. 35mm. With Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon. Lemmon and Curtis are skirt-chasing musicians on the run from gangsters in Prohibition-era Chicago. To hide, they don wigs and dresses and fly away south with an all-girl band. And that’s the set-up for what many consider the funniest movie ever made. The delights are profound: Lemmon’s increasingly giddy enjoyment of his new persona, Curtis’s delightful Cary Grant impression, and Monroe’s sultry poignancy as the curvy ukulele player who turns their heads.
