Strange Days

Ongoing

Introduced by Peter Labuza, author of Approaching the End: Imagining the Apocalypse in American Film

Dir. Kathryn Bigelow. 1995, 145 mins. 35mm. Written by James Cameron and Jay Cocks. With Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis. Film critic Peter Labuza is the host of the podcast The Cinephiliacs. His book Approaching the End: Imagining the Apocalypse in American Film (2014, The Critical Press) rethinks apocalyptic cinema by considering its relationship to film noir. Labuza will introduce a screening of the sci-fi thriller Strange Days. As he writes, “Strange Days revels in noir’s period darkness, shooting the future as a vision of the urban nightmare of the past. Through this apocalyptic nightmare, Kathryn Bigelow creates a sense of how all forms of media distort the world we see around us.” The screening will be followed by a book signing in the Museum Store.

Tickets are included with paid Museum admission on a first-come, first-served basis. Members at the Film Lover level and above may reserve tickets in advance.
