The White Knights (Les Chevaliers blancs)

Ongoing

Introduced by Sylvie Pialat

Dir. Joachim Lafosse. 2015, 112 mins. U.S. premiere. DCP. Produced by Sylvie Pialat/Worso Films. With Vincent Lindon, Louise Bourgoin, Valerie Donzelli. Joachim Lafosse’s highly anticipated follow-up to Our Children (2012) is an incisive portrait of France’s abiding post-colonial legacy in North Africa. Shot on location in the Moroccan desert, the film—inspired by a scandalous real-life news item—follows a French adoption agency posing as an NGO who covertly transport 103 children from civil war-ravaged Chad to France. “Technically bracing and […] powerfully acted, The White Knights is […] no simple tale of heroism,” wrote Ashley Clark in Sight & Sound. The film won Best Director, Best Cinematography, and a Special Jury Award at the 2015 San Sebastian Film Festival.
