In a delightful role that allowed him to play around with his screen persona, Robinson plays a mild-mannered clerk who bears an uncanny resemblance to a notorious gangster. With a script co-written by Frank Capra’s longtime collaborator Robert Riskin and based on a story by W. R. Burnett (Little Caesar, The Asphalt Jungle), this rarely screened gem is one of Ford’s most enjoyable films of the 1930s.
