Dir. Bette Gordon. 1983, 100 mins. 35mm. With Sandy McLeod, Nan Goldin, Richard Davidson, Spalding Gray (voice), Luis Guzman, Will Patton. A woman who takes a job at a Times Square porno theater develops a fascination with the movies shown there and an obsession with a male customer, in this transgressive landmark of downtown 1980s New York indie cinema. With a script by novelist Kathy Acker, photography by Tom DiCillo, and music by John Lurie, the film is a time capsule of Reagan-era New York that was hailed as a “feminist Vertigo” by L.A. Weekly.
