Dir. Alfred Hitchcock. 1958, 128 mins. 35mm IB Technicolor print. With James Stewart, Kim Novak, Barbara Bel Geddes. Recently deemed the greatest film of all time in the influential Sight & Sound critics’ poll, Hitchcock’s romantic melodrama is about a detective (Stewart) who rescues a woman (Novak) and remakes her in the image of the woman he loved. Fittingly, the film has a mirrorlike structure, its two parts bisected by a key plot revelation. Shown in an extremely rare collector’s IB Technicolor print, which keeps the original soundtrack and color beautifully intact.
