Poster, A Taste of Sugar, 1978

Historical note
This poster is part of the Museum’s Variety Photo Plays collection, which comprises approximately 250 posters, 100 film stills, 300 lobby cards, and several press books, dating from the mid 1960s to the mid 1980s. Most of the posters are for X or XXX rated films, while the lobby cards and stills are for a mix of B-movie, X-rated, and exploitation titles.

The Variety Photo Plays theater was built in 1914, on the west side of Third Avenue between 13th and 14th streets in Manhattan. By the 1970s it catered to a mostly gay audience. In 1989 the theater was closed by the New York City Department of Health.
