Workshop 2

Workshop:

Earn a Digital Badge in Video Performance

Deadline to apply extended to January 14, 2022!

This intensive workshop is open to emerging artists ages 16 to 100+, and led by visual artist Natalía Dominguez, originally from San Salvador, El Salvador. Each participant will earn a digital badge after successfully completing a video performance work using themes of autobiography, territory, and migration. In this workshop, we will discuss recent video performance works on the theme of migration from Central America, Mexico, and the USA. Participants will explore the theme of migration through different lenses, with talks from experts from different fields, including Dr. T’Karima Ticitl, Shaman, scholar and doula; Dr. Robert C. Smith, sociologist at Baruch College of CUNY; and the collective Alumbra Barrio, a group of designers who create public interventions with youth using illumination and lighting. The intensive offers an opportunity to rethink production methods using the creative technologies of the museum.

At the conclusion of the workshop, we will hold a public screening of the video performance works in the Museum’s Redstone Theater. Workshops will be held both virtually and onsite in the Museum, with a hybrid option for anyone not able to attend in person.

Space is limited to 10 participants per group; there will be a group held in Spanish and a group held in English. Anyone interested in taking part in this workshop must complete this application. The deadline to apply for this program is January 14, 2022. All applicants will be notified if they have been accepted to participate in this program within 24 hours of applying. Need-based scholarships are available upon request.
