Love Me Tonight

En curso

Screening followed by discussion with critics Lou Lumenick and Nick Pinkerton and filmmaker Saro Varjabedian.

Dir. Rouben Mamoulian. 1932, 89 mins. 35mm. With Maurice Chevalier, Jeanette MacDonald, Charles Ruggles. With its roving camera floating freely over Paris in its amazing opening number (“Isn’t it Romantic”), Love Me Tonight, with Maurice Chevalier as a jovial tailor who tries to collect on a bill from a Count—and falls in love with a princess—was the first truly modern movie musical. A panel of critics and filmmakers will discuss the importance and innovations of Mamoulian’s films and their legacy; participants include critics Lou Lumenick (New York Post) and Nick Pinkerton (moderator; Tiro inverso, Comentario de la película, Artforum) and filmmaker Saro Varjabedian (Eliot Loves, After Water There Is Sand).

Tickets for Friday evening screenings: $12 ($9 for senior citizens and students / free for members at the Film Lover level and above). Order tickets online aquí. Members at the Film Lover level and above may reserve tickets in advance.
