Dir. Kogonada. 2022, 96 mins. DCP. With Colin Farrell, Justin H. Min, Jodie Turner-Smith, Haley Lu Richardson, Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja. When his young daughter’s technosapien companion, the android Yang (Min), malfunctions, Jake (Farrell) must come to terms with what this loss means for his family. Adapted from a short story by Alexander Weinstein, and directed with aesthetic precision and restraint by Kogonada, After Yang is a sensitive inquiry into what it means to be human. The film made its world premiere at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and was awarded the Sloan Feature Film Prize at Sundance, before being released by A24. This special screening will be followed by a conversation with producer Theresa Park and tech reporter Kashmir Hill about “intelligence” in AI.
