Body Heat

Friday, Jul 21 at 7:00 pm

Location: Redstone Theater

Dir. Lawrence Kasdan, 1981, 113 mins. 35mm. With William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Richard Crenna, Ted Danson, Mickey Rourke, J. A. Preston. Kasdan’s reimagining of Double Indemnity is the stickiest, sweatiest, and sexiest neo-noir ever made. Its clever, twist-filled tale about a two-bit Florida lawyer coerced by a suave femme fatale into killing her rich husband during a swampy heat wave set the template for a decade of erotic thrillers—and was perhaps never bested. Featuring lusty, nuanced performances from Hurt and Turner, who become instant stars out of nowhere, Body Heat is a crackling and stylish homage to the dark double-crossed noirs of the 1940s that never feels like mere pastiche. (Released August 28, 1981)
