SCREENING, NEW RELEASE

Crimes of the Future

Friday, Jul 1 at 3:00 pm

Location: Bartos Screening Room

Dir. David Cronenberg. 2022, 107 mins. DCP. With Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart, Scott Speedman, Don McKellar. The latest film from David Cronenberg (The Fly, Videodrome) is a return to the speculative body horror of the Canadian auteur’s early career. Crimes of the Future is set at a time when the human species is adapting to a synthetic environment, and the body is undergoing new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice (Seydoux), celebrity performance artist Saul Tenser (Mortensen, in his fourth collaboration with Cronenberg) publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Meanwhile, Timlin (Stewart), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements revealing a mysterious group that wants to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution. A Neon release.
