Attention All Passengers + In Shallow Water

Dir. Marek Moučka. Slovakia. 2020, 29 mins. In Slovak with English subtitles. DCP. Redolent of the frank, reportorial mode of early cinema vérité, these two miniatures, shot on 16mm, explore social rehabilitation in two different sets of men: train pilots recovering from the trauma of experiencing fatal collisions, and prisoners who fish for traditional Christmas carp as a form of community service. Moučka evinces a keen eye for the telling idiosyncrasies of his subjects. U.S. premiere (Attention All Passengers) and New York premiere (In Shallow Water)

The Tempest

Dir. Julie Jang. U.S. 2022, 8 mins. In Korean with English subtitles. Quarantined due to close contact with a COVID-19 patient, Kara receives a package of abalones (a type of mollusk) from her mother. Confused as to how to prepare them, she befriends them instead.

Walk Alone

Dir. Lamu Xiangqiu. U.S. 2021, 24 mins. In Tibetan with English subtitles. Traveling alone across the infamous Tibet badlands to deliver goods to the East, Tenzin retreats to an abandoned cabin to escape a snowstorm. Suddenly a man appears at the door, a stranger who’s also in need of shelter, and may or may not be a dangerous enemy.
