Isaac Nabwana single-handedly creates action films at his home in the slums of Wakaliga, Uganda. Under his direction, an ingenious crew of self-taught filmmakers and martial arts aficionados have produced dozens of gonzo action films in Uganda’s capital city, Kampala, with budgets that rarely exceed $200 USD. Utilizing scrap parts to build computers, machine guns, and a full-sized Huey helicopter, these real-life superheroes inspire more heart, imagination, and soul than a thousand Hollywood blockbusters. In this special edition of MoMI’s monthly Fist and Sword series, two films by Nabwana, a.k.a. IGG, will be presented with a live Skype conversation in between shows with Nabwana, moderated by his co-producer, co-writer, and accidental action movie star Alan Ssali Hofmanis. Hofmanis is a native Long Islander and former Cinema Arts Centre programmer who sold everything he had and moved to a village in Uganda to help bring these films to the world.

About Wakaliwood
Wakaliwood is a combination of Wakaliga, the slum IGG calls home, and Hollywood. Over the years, IGG has assembled a dedicated team of actors, technicians, prop masters, martial artists, and stunt people who have traveled from all parts of East Africa to be part of his Vision. When not shooting, they team can be found rehearsing, building equipment and props out scrap metal, or distribute DVDs in the local markets. Surprisingly, IGG Nabwana himself has never been to a movie theater.
