Location: Bartos Screening Room

Furie (2019), 98 mins.
Directed by Le Van Kiet.

With Veronica Ngo, Phan Than Nhien, Mai Cat Vi.

In the latest action-packed film from Vietnamese director Le Van Kiet, a little girl is snatched away by human traffickers, who soon discover that they messed with the wrong child. Her mother (Ngo), a notorious former gang leader, is hot on their trail and will go to any lengths to bring her child home. “Shot in luscious primary colors and vibrant neon, and exploiting Vietnam’s natural beauty and evocative locations, Furie…looks as sharp as anything from South Korea or Hong Kong at those movie industries’ peaks. Ngo [delivers] a fiery, stoic, desperate and poised performance that balances badassery with vulnerability. It’s her movie to lose.”—Elizabeth Kerr, The Hollywood Reporter
