Following an education at Middlebury College and receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University School of General Studies, Zea became a costume designer for Alan Parker’s Fame and Shoot the Moon, and Academy Award–winning film Terms of Endearment. Zea also produced Brooks’s As Good As It Gets.

For television, Zea’s designs were seen in Black Nativity, HBO’s The Leftovers, NBC’s American Odyssey and The Comedian. Zea directed Anna Deavere Smith in HBO’s Notes From the Field, based on Smith’s award winning play. Currently, Zea is designing NBC’s New Amsterdam (2018). Zea’s first documentary, Everybody Knows… Elizabeth Murray, which she produced and directed, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016.
