With Anja Dornieden and Juan David González Monroy in person

Dir. Anja Dornieden & Juan David González Monroy (OJOBOCA). 2020, 76 mins. 16mm. In Dutch with English subtitles. In the early 1920s, zoologist brothers Heinz and Lutz Heck launched a breeding back program to revive the aurochs, an extinct species of wild cattle shrouded in mythological belief and credited with supernatural powers. Weaving this peculiar historical episode into a larger context of Nazi fantasies of genetic perfection, Dornieden and González Monroy mount a droll deconstruction of a truth stranger than fiction. Preceded by Enthusiasm (2022, 8 mins. 16mm).
