An Evening with John DeMarsico, N.Y. Mets Game Director for SNY
Saturday, Apr 29, 2023 at 6:00 pm
Location: Redstone Theater
In honor of the most creative, entertaining, and innovative live sports show in the country, MoMI welcomes John DeMarsico, New York Mets Game Director for nightly SNY broadcasts, for a big-screen showcase of the cinematic inspirations for his baseball broadcasts. DeMarsico will pair clips from some of his favorite films with sequences from his broadcasts that were directly inspired by those films—the breadth and variety of which is certain to surprise you. It will be followed by a conversation moderated by Curator of Film Eric Hynes covering cinema and baseball; the extraordinarily complex art of live sports editing; working with star announcers Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling, and Gary Cohen; and more.
John DeMarsico was born in Florida into a family of New York transplants and grew up a die-hard Mets fan. As a toddler, he watched the original Ghostbusters on a loop every day until the tape was reduced to dust. For show-and-tell in preschool, he proudly took his beloved VHS copy of The Land Before Time. John studied film at North Carolina State University, where he was also a member of the baseball team—go Wolfpack. Upon graduation in 2009, he started a summer internship at SportsNet New York fetching coffee and hot dogs for his mentor and TV titan, Bill Webb. After earning a coveted permanent position, he moved his way up the ladder from production assistant to associate producer to associate director to, for the last three seasons, the lead director. In the offseason, John lives in Mississippi with his wife and daughter and his massive library of physical film media. Currently his favorite movies are Tangled, The Aristocats, and whatever else his three-year-old lets him watch.
