Dir. Enzo G. Castellari.1976, 100 mins. DCP. With Franco Nero, William Berger, Olga Karlatos, Woody Strode. Castellari (director of the original The Inglorious Bastards) considered this sweeping revenge drama to be his best work. Although he signed onto the production at the last minute for a supporting role, Strode would praise Castellari’s direction as worthy of Ford. Here, Strode turns in a haunting performance as a town drunk who, as it’s revealed in flashback, once helped raise Nero’s protagonist and now seeks to redeem himself. Restoration courtesy of Arrow Films and the American Genre Film Archive.
