Pause (Pafsi) + Conversation with Celia D. Costas

Ongoing

Location: Redstone Theater

Presented by the Hellenic Film Society USA in association with NYWIFT. Screening followed by discussion with Emmy Award–winning producer Celia Costas on the occasion of Womens History Month

Dir. Tonia Mishiali. 2019. 96 mins. DCP. In Greek with English subtitles. With Stella Fyrogeni, Andreas Vasileiou, Popi Avraam, Andrey Pilipenko. A middle-aged woman trapped in a loveless marriage begins to fantasize about taking revenge on her boorish husband – until the line between fantasy and reality begins to blur. Filmed in Cyprus, Pause was written, directed and produced by women, and is presented in honor of Women’s History Month and in association New York Women in Film & Television. View trailer.

“A work of considerable tonal complexity, as it stirs moments of pitch-black humor and short and violent reveries into an otherwise austerely told tale of spousal strife that wants to smash the patriarchy with feats of cinematic derring-do.”—Boyd van Hoeij, Hollywood Reporter

“Fryogeni…appears in almost every shot, and she carries the film with a bravura performance of a woman at her wit’s end.”—Katie Walsh, The Los Angeles Times

Following the screening:
