Hot-tempered and fiercely independent, Julia (Ledru) is a gearhead who thrives in hostile environments and turns every situation to her advantage. She has a talent for scamming condescending men who think it’s cute that she shows interest in their used motorbikes—and can’t fathom her riding away with gleeful abandon. Her obsession with the high-octane world of urban “Rodeos”—illicit gatherings where riders flaunt their bikes and latest daring stunts—sparks a chance meeting with a volatile clique. Julia strives to prove herself to the ultra-masculine gang by performing cons and running errands for their incarcerated ringleader, Dom, finding a surprising connection with Dom’s wife, Ophélie (Buresi) and son, a risky move that puts a target on her back—just as the gang plans to attempt the ultimate heist. Ultra independent action thrillers are a rare breed, but Quivoron’s debut feature exceeds any limitations, wearing them with pride and guile, much like its protagonist. Ledru, in her first screen role, is mesmerizing, always perched on a knife’s edge between wrath and inner collapse, embodying power and joy only in literal stolen moments alone on a bike. Winner of the Jury’s Coup de Coeur at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard. About the Filmmakers:

Lola Quivoron is a French director and writer. Her films include the short Son of the Wolf (2015); Au loin, Baltimore (2016), which screened at various festivals, including the Locarno Film Festival, and was nominated for an AFI Fest Live Action Short Film Grand Jury Prize; the documentary Headshot: Roulette Russe (2020); and Rodeo (2022), which won Un Certain Regard Coup de Coeur award at Cannes Film Festival.  

 

Anthony Ing is a British and Canadian filmmaker and composer whose work explores existing cultural artifacts, focusing on the relationship between identity, performance, and the invisible structures that shape our lives. Ing is a co-founder of production outfit Loop, which has produced a range of artist-led film and television projects since 2014, receiving awards at the Griersons, BFI London Film Festival, and the British Independent Film Awards.
