Spring Family Day: And the Award Goes to…

Museum admission is FREE for youth ages 17 and under

(children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.)

Join the Museum of the Moving Image for a fun-filled day when kids can step into the roles of filmmakers, designers, and actors preparing for the Academy Awards! The Museum will present screenings of Oscar-winning films, offer art-making projects based on awards categories, and host an award-themed scavenger hunt in our exhibitions. And, no award show is complete without acceptance speeches and a red carpet for a little glamour!

Award-Winning Moving Image Studio

11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Digital Learning Suite)

Recommended for ages 4+

This super-sized version of the Museum’s drop-in studio will feature activities focused on award show categories and glamour. Take your picture on the red carpet, give your own awards acceptance speech, vote for your own favorite movies, and create some of your own masterpieces.

Screening of a Muppet awards compilation

11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Tut’s Fever Movie Palace, in Behind the Screen)

Recommended for ages 3+

A continuous loop throughout the day featuring the Muppets being glamorous and a Muppet Show episode featuring “The Fred Awards.” Drop in anytime throughout the day for the Muppets own take on award shows.

Face Painting with the Cheeky Chipmunk

11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Children can pick from an assortment of movie-themed images and have their faces painted to get in the festive mood. Space is limited, pick up a ticket when you arrive to reserve your spot.

Scavenger Hunt

11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Recommended for children ages 6+ with the help of an adult

Throughout the day, families can explore The Jim Henson Exhibition and the Museum’s core exhibition Behind the Screen with a fun award show–themed scavenger hunt. 

Ticketed events:

See the Disney classic Mary Poppins (1964) on the big screen at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Winner of five Academy Awards including Best Actress in a Leading Role (Julie Andrews) and Best Music, and Original Song for “Chim Chim Cher-ee.” Oscar-Nominated Animated Shorts 2018 will screen at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Tickets are required for these screenings. Please pick up your ticket upon arriving at the Museum.
