Valdemar.” 

The Haunted Palace

With Vincent Price, Debra Paget, Lon Chaney Jr, Elisha Cook Jr. In 1765, damned warlock Joseph Curwen (Price) curses the New England village Arkham before being burned alive. Centuries later, Charles Ward (also Price) arrives in Arkham, having inherited his great-grandfather’s mansion. The warlock’s great old curse soon seizes Charles, and awakens a sleeping evil in his blood. Borrowing only Poe’s poem of the same name, The Haunted Palace is notable as the first ever adaptation of an H. P. Lovecraft story, the weirdness of which is handled well by Corman’s atmospheric shots and Price’s memorable dual performance.
