The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms

Saturday, Jun 24 at 5:00 pm

Location: Bartos Screening Room

Dir. Eugène Lourié. 1953, 80 mins. 35mm. With Paul Christian, Paula Raymond, Cecil Kellaway, Kenneth Tobey. When scientists detonate a nuclear device in the Arctic Circle, they unwittingly thaw and release a prehistoric monster that forges a path of destruction all the way to New York. Normal artillery has no effect on the Beast, so it’s a race against the clock to prevent the complete devastation of the city—and the rest of the world—in this pivotal 1950s monster movie that influenced generations of genre films, including the Godzilla franchise, with its tremendous stop-motion special effects created by the legendary Ray Harryhausen.

Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / free for MoMI members at the Senior/Student level and above. Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
