Location: Redstone Theater

Dir. Richard Brooks. 1966, 117 mins. DCP. With Burt Lancaster, Lee Marvin, Robert Ryan, Woody Strode, Jack Palance, Claudia Cardinale. Richard Brooks’s Academy Award–nominated western provided Strode with his highest billing to date (fourth, behind Lancaster, Marvin, and Ryan), as well as a chance to play a character with his same Black and Native American lineage, rather than nondescript African, Chinese, or anything in-between. He plays Jake Sharp, an ace bow assassin in a three-man posse charged with taking down a revolutionary-turned-mercenary in the closing days of the Mexican Revolution. “Dick Farnsworth, the famous stuntman, taught me how to use a bow and arrow,” he wrote in his memoir, Goal Dust. “He started me off with a 50-pound bow and 28-inch arrows. I had to graduate to the 70-pound bow; that’s what I use in the picture. A 70-pound bow and a 34-inch arrow will kill anything in the world.”

Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
