Before there were social networks and massively multiplayer games, there was the groundbreaking Sissyfight (1999, web). Equal parts chat room, multi-player rock-paper-scissors, and Lord of the Flies, Sissyfight is set in a schoolyard where schoolgirls compete to eliminate the self-esteem of other players. The original development team recently re-made the game, and this event serves as its official launch. Frank Lantz is the Director of the NYU Game Center and respected game designer and theorist with deep roots in the NYC game community. Over the last 20 years, he has been part of many of the touchstones of the NYC game community, including Area/Code, Gamelab, R/GA Interactive, NYU’s ITP, Parsons’ MFADT.
