The Working on It program, which offers a lab-like environment for work-in-progress screenings, workshops, and discussions about the artistic process, will take place during the day March 15–17, and is open to the public.
Day One
12:00–5:00 p.m.: Reverse Shot Emerging Critics Workshop (PRIVATE)
2:00–2:30 p.m.: Opening Salvo, Working on It 2023
2:30–4:00 p.m.: Work-in-Progress screening (Redstone Theater)
Filmmaker Frank Heath presents his film Centralia, followed by a discussion with Curator of Science and Technology Sonia Epstein. Centralia is slow-burn landscape-horror film focused on the near ghost town of Centralia, Pennsylvania, a site devastated by the effects of a subterranean coal fire that has burned for more than 60 years. The work is entirely soundtracked by the full length LP “Ancient Songs of Burlap Heros” by Columbia Icefield, a group led by renowned Trumpet player and composer Nate Wooley.
4:00–5:00 p.m.: Live performance / Work-in-Progress presentation (Redstone Theater)
Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher return to discuss the development of Spectral Transmissions, their live interactive music cinema and storytelling project—new works in progress will explore the uneasy relationship between memory, technology, and mediated experience.
Followed by a reception sponsored by the School of Visual Arts BFA Film Department and the Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism at the Missouri School of Journalism.
