SCREENING

Zombies of Mora Tau

Sunday, Sep 4 at 4:30 pm

Location: Bartos Screening Room

Dir. Edward L. Cahn. 1957, 69 mins. 35mm. With Gregg Palmer, Allison Hayes, Autumn Russell. Following Creature with the Atom Brain and Invisible Invaders, Cahn delivers a more traditional zombie feature, trading austere laboratories and modern urbanscapes for the labyrinthine coast of Africa. An outfit of unsuspecting divers finds their efforts to recover diamonds from a sunken ship are thwarted by the ship’s zombie crew, somehow tasked beyond the grave with guarding the treasure. While other zombie films of the era (including Cahn’s own) were more preoccupied with the “atomic” zombie—a manifestation of scientific overreach rather than a mystical being—Cahn’s film contains prescient imagery to which several later zombie films may trace their lineage.
