An Ava DuVernay Retrospective

Jan 3 — Jan 5, 2015

This series is part of Changing the Picture, sponsored by Time Warner Inc.

After working as a publicist, writer, and film distributor, the Los Angeles-based filmmaker Ava DuVernay has rapidly become a prominent and versatile director, making acclaimed documentaries and fiction films. Her low-budget 2012 feature Middle of Nowhere won the Best Director prize at Sundance, and now she has made a major leap forward with her impressive new film Selma, about Martin Luther King, Jr. and a key period in the civil rights movement. Whether working on a large or small scale, DuVernay’s work is always marked by emotional truth and keen observation.
