Black History Month Celebration 2019

In February 2019, Museum of the Moving Image will celebrate Black History Month with a film screening every Friday during the month programmed by Warrington Hudlin in his dual capacity as Vice Chairman of the Museum and President of the Black Filmmaker Foundation.

A Conversation with Karyn Parsons, and screening of The Bessie Coleman Story

A conversation with actress-turned-filmmaker Karyn Parsons (Fresh Prince of Bel Air), whose production company Sweet Blackberry produces little-known inspiring stories, animated for children. Her talk will include a preview screening of The Bessie Coleman Story, a short animated film about the story of the first African American female aviator. View trailer

Moving Body — Moving Image

This program of short films gives voice to social justice themes in the hybrid form of filmmaking, also called ScreenDance. The program is curated by Gabri Christa, dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, and professor at Barnard College.

And I Danced 

Christopher Martin, aka Play of the rap duo Kid ‘n Play and the House Party movie franchise, produced this documentary about the back up hip hop dancers of the 1980s and ‘90s.
