Films for Rachel

May 22 — May 23, 2015

In the movie Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, adapted by Jesse Andrews for the screen from his own novel, the teen protagonist Greg and his “co-worker” Earl remake classic movies and share them with Rachel, who has leukemia. As Greg explains, “we take a film we like. Give it a stupider title and make a new film to reflect the new title. It’s a formula that only produces horrible films, but for some reason we keep using it.” Here are the original classics that were remade in Me and Earl as Pooping Tom, Monorash, and Burden of Screams.

On Tuesday, May 26, the Museum will present a preview screening of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl with director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon in person.
