Queen of Lapa

A transgender sex worker since the age of eleven, Luana Muniz, now 59, houses a new generation of transgender sex workers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, helping to create a safer, more compassionate world for them. Collatos and Monnerat’s documentary Queen of Lapa explores the day-to-day lives, rivalries, and quests for love within Muniz’s “hostel,” a refuge from a city that has been violent towards its trans community.
