See It Big! Animation

Nov 28 — Dec 28, 2014

See It Big! is an ongoing series organized by Reverse Shot co-editors Michael Koresky and Jeff Reichert, Chief Curator David Schwartz, and Assistant Film Curator Aliza Ma

Whether using pencils and paint, puppets, cut-out images, or computers, animators are creating entirely new worlds for the big screen from their imagination. In animated films, anything can happen, and the worlds can combine elements of fantasy, dream, and reality. These worlds can only truly come to life when the films are seen big! While Disney set the standard for animated features in the 1930s and 1940s, this selection focuses on contemporary films, some ideal for children and some meant for an adult audience.

These screenings are presented in conjunction with the exhibitions What’s Up, Doc? The Animation Art of Chuck Jones (on view through January 19, 2015) and Plymptoons: Short Films and Drawings by Bill Plympton (through January 4, 2015).
