See It Big! Ghost Stories

Sep 20 — Oct 20, 2019

Cinema has been a ghostly medium from the beginning, with its propensity for photographic effects and superimpositions, its evocation of psychic spaces, and its ability to capture distant, long-lost pasts in motion. In this nearly hundred-year survey, we look at some of the greatest ghost stories of all time, from a sinister silent classic to supernatural Hollywood romances of the forties to classic Japanese kaidan adaptations to contemporary scare machines. These are movies to see and share in the theater, experiences of enveloping darkness and echoing whispers.

Organized by Michael Koresky and Jeff Reichert, with Curator of Film Eric Hynes and Assistant Curator of Film Edo Choi.
